There are 13 known species of Hercules beetles. They live in tropical rainforests, hidden in rotten tree trunks. Although very strong, Hercules beetle has a lot of predators. Other threats to the survival of Hercules beetle include deforestation (loss of habitat) and pollution of the water and air. Hercules beetle is listed as threatened species. Their diet consists out of decaying wood, fruit and leaves. Their size varies from 4cm – 17cm. The Hercules beetle is the strongest creature on earth for its size, able to carry 850 times its own body weight. These enormous insects have a lot of predators like bats, rats and birds along with reptiles and omnivorous mammals.
